Outdoor Arenas

Outdoors we have two of the best grass arenas in the country, the Gold arena which is extremely flat and is ideal for all disciplines. The Silver Arena is laid out with undulating ground and includes banks ditches and several permenant obstacles making it the best working hunter arena in the country.

These facilities are served by ample car and lorry parking.

In the Stable area there is a 22 box livery yard, a 34 box competition yard. This area is equiped with a feed store, three tack rooms and a 5 Horse Walker.

These facilities make Dabbs one of the premier centres in the country.

Equine Disciplines at Dabbs Show and Activity Centre

Dressage

The word dressage (rhymes with "massage") is derived from a French term meaning "training." It is not only a method of schooling, but also a competitive equestrian sport. Dressage is considered "classical training," because it uses gymnastic exercises—a series of movements and figures—which have been studied and developed for centuries. The Spanish Riding School in Vienna, Austria, with its white Lipizzana stallions, is perhaps the most familiar institution dedicated exclusively to the classical art of riding. Once an activity of royalty, today dressage has evolved into a discipline and competitive sport accessible to all horses and riders

Show Jumping

Riders and horses must negotiate the designated course with the ultimate goal of acquiring no faults. Horses are required to jump 15 to 20 obstacles, with 'faults' (i.e. penalty points) being assessed if a horse refuses or brings down the highest rail of an obstacle (fence). The riders must also be mindful of the ever-ticking clock. Riders need to complete the course within the time allowed to avoid time penalties. There is also a maximum time limit - riders unable to complete the course within the time limit are eliminated. If either the horse or rider falls, the pair is eliminated. The order for each horse and rider combination is determined by a draw prior to the class.
